At Banks Technology Services, our goal is to create something different: a calmer, more reliable technology environment that businesses can actually depend on.

Hi, I’m Philip Banks, founder of Banks Technology Services. We work with small and mid-sized businesses that rely on technology every day but don’t want the burden of managing IT themselves.

How Banks Technology Services Got Started

Banks Technology Services started in 2011.

At the time, I was working full-time in IT for an accounting firm when a former colleague reached out and asked if I could help her new company with their technology.

That first client turned into a few more.

For several years, I ran the business on the side while continuing my full-time role. It was a gradual build—one relationship at a time.

The Moment the Business Became Real

In 2014, things changed.

The accounting firm I was working for decided to outsource their IT. Around the same time, my wife Lindsey and I were expecting our first child.

That created a clear decision point:

  • Find another IT job

  • Or fully commit to growing the business

After a lot of discussion, spreadsheets, and careful planning—especially around things like health insurance with a baby on the way—we decided to go all in.

That’s when Banks Technology Services became more than just a side business.

What I Saw Missing in Traditional IT

One of the biggest frustrations I saw in traditional IT environments was a disconnect between technology and business goals.

Too often:

  • IT operated in its own silo

  • Leadership focused on budgets

  • Technology decisions weren’t clearly tied to outcomes

The result was systems that worked technically—but didn’t necessarily support how the business actually operated.

When done right, technology should align with and support the goals of the business—not operate separately from them.

Sometimes it’s something simple—fixing an issue that’s been frustrating someone for months.

Other times, it’s helping a business gain clarity around their entire technology environment.

In both cases, the impact is the same:

  • Work becomes easier

  • Frustration goes down

  • Confidence goes up

And once businesses know they have dependable support, they stop just dealing with problems and start bringing them forward so they can be solved properly.
